Sergio Garcia ended a two-year drought in a nerve-wracking four-man playoff to win the inaugural Ho Tram Open in Vietnam this past December. In a first for Troon, the company helped stage the Asian Tour event, from its initial planning stages and golf course preparation right up to the event itself. Played over the Greg Norman-designed Bluffs Ho Tram golf course, some of the Asian and European Tour’s biggest names participates, including Ruder Cup Captain Darren Clarke, former U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy, Thomas Bjorn, Oliver Wilson, and Vietnam’s top golfer, Nhat Michael Tran. Garcia almost gifted the field in a thrilling final round, blowing a 2-shot lead with a double-bogey on No. 17. However, the Spaniard rallied to survive a two-hole playoff with India’s Himmat Rai, Thailand’s Thaworn Wiratchant and Taiwan’s Lin Wen-tang.
