Where in the World is DJ, Cambodia February 2022

Where in the World is DJ, Troon International

Recently, I was able to make my first visit to Vattanac Golf Resort in Phom Penh, Cambodia.  This spectacular facility was added to the Troon portfolio right at the onset of the pandemic, and I have been anxiously waiting for the COVID travel restrictions to soften so that I could make my inaugural visit.  And it was definitely worth the wait.

The 36-hole Faldo design is extremely impressive and our team on the ground has done an exceptional job in bringing the operation and the agronomic conditions in line with the Troon experience.  And the experience is everything here; from the warm welcome and Cambodian hospitality and the all-female caddie team who accompany you on the course, to unique experiences like refueling mid-game in one of the beautiful tea houses on the golf course, it’s certainly a game of golf you won’t forget. It’s easy to see why this golf course was awarded “Cambodia’s Best Golf Course 2021” in the World Golf Awards.

Alongside the 36-holes of golf is a new world-class Academy which will be complemented by a state-of-the-art Clubhouse in the future.  The Academy, which has just launched a really unique Stay & Learn experience, offers a floodlit driving range, with all bays powered by Eagle Try technology, 2 teaching rooms each equipped with world-leading technology, an expansive short game area, 4 VIP rooms all equipped with the latest Trackman Range software, 3 golf simulator rooms, a golf specialist gym, the largest golf shop in Cambodia and a PGA specialized custom fitting service.

Phnom Penh is a bustling city with an incredible amount of history and culture but is still relatively new as a golf destination.  The first golf course in Cambodia, The Cambodia Golf & Country Club, opened in December 1996 and since then the area has seen 5 other golf courses open with the most recent being the 36-holes at Vattanac Golf Resort.  With the history, the genuine Cambodian hospitality, and the great golf courses on offer, Phnom Penh should be high on the list for anyone looking for a golf vacation in Asia.  I promise it will not disappoint.
