El Macero Country Club To Host PGA Junior League Golf Program

Little League-Type Atmosphere Attracts Golfers Ages 9-13

In their ever-continuing quest to attract the future of the game of golf to its property, El Macero Country Club is once again hosting a PGA Junior League Golf program. Designed specifically for boys and girls ages 9-13, the PGA Junior League is a structured program where junior golfers can hone their skills in a competitive, yet fun and unique environment.

El Macero CC has seen the popularity of its the PGA Junior League program rise dramatically over the past three years and this year they will be able to field four teams consisting of eight to ten golfers each. The 40 junior players will participate in practice sessions at El Macero and also have the opportunity to participate in scrimmages at other golf clubs in the area, enabling the juniors to experience different course conditions, further improving the quality of their play. “Our PGA Junior League program has been a big hit with our juniors and their parents and grandparents. It’s a wonderful way for youngsters to not only enjoy and experience golf in a league format, but also develop their skills in a unique team setting while learning the fundamentals from PGA Professionals,” said David Knox, PGA General Manager of El Macero Country Club.

Each PGA Junior League golfer receives a team jersey, golf balls and PGA JLG bag tags. In addition to regular coaching and practice sessions, 5-6 regular season competitions will be scheduled with post-season and All Star matches included for those earning spots after the playing season has been completed. Other clubs in the greater Sacramento area have also seen explosive growth in their PGA Junior League programs. In all, ten clubs will be participating in this year’s program.

“Our challenge every year is to effectively grow the game of golf with the players who are just starting out, our juniors. All of us at El Macero CC are fully determined to continue to develop this program, offering the opportunity for more youngsters to tee it up each and every year,” added Bruce Summerhays, PGA Head Golf Professional at El Macero Country Club. League action is set to get underway on Saturday, June 6.

Initially, the PGA Junior League program was to be played during the summer months only, but due to its popularity, El Macero Country Club is offering an expanded league that is available for play throughout the entire year. “Due to the overwhelming support of parents and the interest from the youngsters, we are now able to offer our Junior league program for a full 12 months, further elevating the stature of the program and the ability for these young golfers to work on their games year round,” said Andrew Schroeder, PGA Junior League Director.
