Hawaii State Junior Golf Association College Combine

Princeville-Kauai, Hawaii. Sunday November 1, 2015 – The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association conducted a College Combine for thirty-four (34) male HSJGA members ages 11-17, to take advantage of an opportunity to be seen by sixteen (16) of the top rated college coaches from around the country. The coaches and their teams were on island for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.

Having a College Combine in Hawaii saves our families from flying to the mainland to be seen by college coaches. The HSJGA also provided all the coaches with complete bio and contact information for each participant. “It is one of our goals to showcase all the talented young players in Hawaii, and this was a great opportunity. I was thrilled with not only the junior participation but the fact that almost all the coaches took the time to watch and evaluate our juniors.” said Mary Bea Porter-King, HSJGA President.

Early Sunday morning thirty-four (34) HSJGA members traveled to Kauai from all islands and were transported by the HSJGA to the Princeville Makai Golf Club. The HSJGA set up four (4) skills stations, including putting, chipping/pitching, irons/woods and bunkers. After all players played from each station, the juniors headed out to play 6 holes on the Woods course with the coaches following.

A special thanks to Pepperdine University Coach-Michael Beard and Colorado State University Coach Christian Newton for staying and answering questions from the parents and juniors. It was a great opportunity to learn how to prepare for the next level of competition and college. The coaches expressed the importance of time management and maintaining good grades in school.

A special thank you to UH Coach Ronn Miyashiro, for assuring the College Combine conformed to all NCAA regulations. Also, thank you to John Moseley, Volunteer Tournament Chair and Princeville Makai General Manager, Alex Nakajima, PGA, and his terrific staff for their support.
