Nancy Dickens Takes Innovation to a Whole New Level
As the club manager at The Westin Kierland Golf Club, Nancy Dickens maintains a lofty status among her peers. That she rose from the superintendent’s position to actually run the entire operation speaks volumes. But when you consider that Dickens is one of only 12 women in the country (versus approximately 2,000 men) who are certified Golf Course Superintendents by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), Dickens’ accomplishments become even more impressive.
“Nancy is a special member of the GCSAA in that she is a pioneer who has not only been with the profession for over 20 years, but has advanced to where she is recognized as one of the best in the business,” says Craig Smith, the director of communications and media relations for GCSAA.
But Dickens gets a little uncomfortable when someone mentions the word “pioneer.” Instead, she prefers the the “P” word – Professional.
“I’ve never seen being a woman as a disadvantage, especially at Troon.” Dickens says. “To me, it’s about passion for growing the game.”
