PARKER MAPES WINS SILVERADO AMATEUR

Parker Mapes Wins Silverado Amateur

Napa, California—Parker Mapes (Pleasanton, CA) shot a final round three-under par 69 to win the Silverado Amateur by one shot over Ian Gilligan (Reno, NV).  Mapes finished at -10 over 54 holes.  Mapes began the day one shot back of leader Max Brenchley (Alpine, UT), with those two and Gilligan essentially the three players with the highest chances of winning today.  Brenchley struggled early in the round but still ended up shooting one-over par 73 to finish at -7 in third place.  Mapes held off Gilligan coming down the stretch, with Gilligan getting to within one shot after a birdie on the 16th hole.  Both bogeyed 18 to maintain the final margin.  Mapes is a rising sophomore at Cal-Poly and Gilligan a sophomore as well at Long Beach State this upcoming fall.

MAPES ON THE WIN:  “I was putting really well.  My ballstriking was amazing too.  I hit lots of fairways and greens.  Everything was working for me and everything was going my way with no bad breaks.  I was making things easy on myself.  It definitely was my biggest win, a good win, and a boost of confidence going into the college season.”
