Scottsdale, Ariz. – Troon Golf,® the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is pleased to announce that Bahía Beach Resort & Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, is among five leading golf courses to earn the coveted 2009 Golf Inc. “Green Award.” The property was recognized as a result of its successful and pioneering environmental practices by Golf Inc., one of the industry’s most respected professional organizations.

The facility was selected by judges as among the very best in the “Golf Course” category for its myriad of green initiatives. Led by the vision and inspiration of Mr. Federico J. Sanchez, president and CEO of Interlink Group, the managing partner of Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club, the facility has proven its commitment to reducing the impact on the surrounding ecosystems, improving the aquatic ecosystem in its ponds, enhancing wildlife habitats and corridors, and conserving water through its irrigation system.

“We are extremely excited to receive the Golf Inc. ‘Green Award’ and to be recognized for our environmental sustainability practices,” stated Spencer Schaub, general manager, Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club. “The true credit goes to Mr. Federico J. Sanchez who was the real driving force behind implementing responsible environmental practices and developing a ‘green’ focus for our team.”

The “Green Award” competition is aimed at recognizing golf courses, golf organizations and companies that have adopted programs and practices designed to promote environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship. Judges for the national competition were Ron Boyd, president of Williamsburg Environmental Group, Bruce Williams of Valley Crest Golf Course Maintenance and Bill Love of William R. Love Golf Course Architecture.

“We are pleased to honor the outstanding efforts of these courses and companies in embracing effective environmental programs and practices,” said Katina Cavagnaro, publisher of Golf Inc.

The winners were honored at a special Green Awards Night cocktail party in September during the 2009 Golf Inc. Conference in La Quinta, Calif.

In addition, Bahía Beach Resort has the distinction of being certified by Audubon International as a Gold Signature Sanctuary. The month of October marks the first anniversary of the coveted certification, which reflects Bahía Beach Resort’s ongoing commitment to the environment.
