MADERAS GOLF CLUB OPENS In NORTH SAN DIEGO COUNTY

POWAY, CA – In Grand Opening ceremonies February 15, 2000 at Maderas Golf Club, PGA TOUR veteran Johnny Miller was on hand with golf course architect, Robert Muir Graves to officially open their bold new design set in Poway, inland north of San Diego. Developed by Sunroad Development, a diversified San Diego-based company, this spectacular golf course plays through creeks, canyons, cliffs, and forests of the open rolling hill country, taking San Diego golfers where they’ve never gone before.

“We are thrilled to offer golfers in this area a new premiere level playing experience. Our guests can be assured of impeccable, carefully maintained championship playing conditions year round with a refined level of cordiality and customer service that matches the setting,” stated Ray Metz, Maderas Facility Manager. “The natural beauty is due largely to Mr. Graves’ vast experience in landscape architecture. His mastery, combined with Johnny Miller’s remarkable sense of golf course strategy, make Maderas a dynamic golf course to play and enjoy like no other in this area of Southern California.”

A full field of nearly 150 invited guests discovered Maderas’ special challenges during the Grand Opening tournament that welcomed key city officials of San Diego and Poway, local celebrities and VIPs, Sunroad executives, as well as others who played a role in making Maderas Golf Club a reality. The afternoon luncheon and awards festivities attended by over 400 guests also included an instructional clinic and exhibition by Johnny Miller whose stellar playing career includes 25 PGA victories and two major championships. He has been involved in golf course design since 1984.

Set within the master-planned community of Heritage Estates, Maderas Golf Club is an upscale daily-fee facility managed by Troon Golf, the recognized world leader in high-end golf management, marketing, and development with over 45 golf properties throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Australia. Maderas Golf Club marks the company’s first foray into the San Diego golf market.
