THE PENINSULA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB CELEBRATES GRAND OPENING
Scottsdale, Ariz. – The Peninsula Golf & Country Club was thrilled to welcome course designer Jack Nicklaus to the property as the club celebrated its grand opening this summer! A Troon Golf®-managed facility in Millsboro, Delaware, The Peninsula Golf & Country Club is the state’s first private Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. After speaking with the media and conducting a warm-up clinic, playing the “ceremonial 18” for the more than 1,200 members, guests, and staff who joined the festivities was the first order of the day!
Monte Schisler, membership director at The Peninsula, had the honor and once-in-a-lifetime experience of carrying Nicklaus’ bag and caddying for his round, and it will be etched in his memory forever! Sporting a full white coverall identical to the ones worn at Augusta National for The Masters, it took only a couple holes for the nerves to settle-in and for Schisler to put to use all the yardages he had been studying up on for the past couple of months. But it wasn’t just straight yardages…it was every yardage you could think of – widest point, most narrow point, corners, exact bunker placement…you name it, Schisler had it — prepared for whatever Nicklaus needed to know. Nicklaus shot a one under par-71 on the 7,302-yard course, setting the club record.

The Peninsula boasts an environmentally sensitive course, set on nearly 800 acres and surrounded by water on three sides. Seven of the 18 holes hug the pristine waterfront along the Indian River and Lingo Creek. The heart of the community will be the Lakeside Village Center with casual dining, a gourmet market, as well as a host of facilities for the active-minded, including two pools, a wave lagoon with water slide, a state-of-the-art athletic club and spa, and a tennis center. When completed, The Peninsula will include more than 1,400 residential units ranging from luxury condominiums to custom homes and a $40 million amenity package, including a clubhouse scheduled to open in 2008. Membership at The Peninsula Golf & Country Club is available only to homeowners within the development.
