Team Troon On Tour: An Amazing Abu Dhabi Week

Before diving into the results from Team Troon this past week, congrats is in order to the entire team at Abu Dhabi Golf Club for another successful Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The golf course looked absolutely amazing on the global television coverage of the event and the competition, like the golf course, was truly world class. Tyrrell Hatton edged out Jason Scrivener and Rory McIlroy for the victory and 1335 Race to Dubai points. Again congrats to the team on all fronts (the golf course, the set up…even the cool Troon signage that was visible in the broadcast and via social media).

Turning towards the US, the PGA TOUR moved from Hawaii (a belated great job again to the Kapalua team on a successful 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions) to the desert of La Quinta and the American Express. Team Troon had three representatives in the field and all three finished within the Top 40! Patrick Cantlay nearly won and finished one shy of eventual winner (Callaway staffer Si Woo Kim) at -22. Followed by solid finishes by Gary Woodland and Alex Noren.

Complete Team Troon results are as follows:

  • 2nd  Patrick Cantlay: -22
  • T16 Gary Woodland: -12
  • T40 Alex Noren: -8

Congrats Patrick, Gary and Alex!

PGA Champions Tour

The first event  of 2021 for the PGA Champions tour took place on Hawaii Island (aka The Big Island) in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai (which actually is just 15 min ish south of the Troon-managed Mauna Lani). Colin Montgomerie was in the field with his all Troon bag and was playing well all week. He would end up finishing T26 at 4 under.

  • T26 Colin Montgomerie -4

LPGA

During a break from LPGA Tour action, Cheyenne Woods competed in a Cactus Tour event in Sun City Arizona and lapped the field with a 16 shot victory after three rounds of 67-65-68 and was the only player that finished under par. Interesting factoid is that the caddy on the bag was her boyfriend, Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks. Fast forward to this past week, Cheyenne was on Aaron’s bag for the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. He played well and she received a number of “shout outs” on ESPN, Golf Channel and more…Click Here to view a cool story on the week that dropped on Yahoo Sports. Congrats Cheyenne on your Cactus Tour W and great job with Aaron this past week.

Coming Up Next Week

The PGA Tour stays in the Golden State of California for the Farmers Insurance Open…Alex Noren and Gary Woodland are in the field.
