Team Troon on Tour: Fitzpatrick with a T6 Finish. Thomas rolling into Tour Championship in #3 Position

The PGA TOUR Fed Ex Cup playoffs continued this past week with the second of three playoff events. The BMW Championship at Olympia Fields was the site of arguably one of the most dramatic finishes in 2020 – with Jon Rahm winning with a walk off 66 footer on the first playoff hole (beating Dustin Johnson whom himself made a 50 footer to get into the playoff). Team Troon had all six qualifying for this second stage of the playoffs with the low Team Troon member being Matt Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick finished in 6th place, just four shots shy of the playoff…thanks to two solid weekend rounds (68-67). Patrick Cantlay finished in top 15 with a T12 finish (at +3), followed by Justin Thomas who finished T25 at +6. Olympia Fields played tough (especially on Saturday) as only 5 players in the 70 player field finished under par.  Team Troon finishes were as follows:

  • T6 Matt Fitzpatrick, E
  • T12 Patrick Cantlay, +3
  • T25 Justin Thomas, +6
  • T33 Gary Woodland, +7
  • T40 Alex Noren, +8
  • T59 Matt Kuchar, +13

The Fed Cup Playoffs conclude at the Tour Championship with the Top 30 Fed Ex Points earners advancing to this final stage. Team Troon will be represented by Justin Thomas, who finished 3rd in Fed Ex points. He will start off the Tour Championship at -7 (due to his 3rd place finish), three shy of #1 Dustin Johnson (-10) and one shy of #2 Jon Rahm (-8).

Go JT and Go Team Troon!

Speaking of the Top 30 in Fed Ex Cup Points…due to a modified PGATOUR schedule this past week had implications for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions at Kapalua (where Justin Thomas is the defending champion).  Winners from the 2020 calendar year AND the top 30 players from the FedExCup Playoff Points List who qualified for the 2020 TOUR Championship will be eligible for the 2021 Sentry Tournament of Champions. As such a number of notables earned an invite to Kapalua:

In support of upcoming Patriot Golf Day (benefiting Folds of Honor), Gary Woodland pushed out this great tweet to his 112K followers with the message…go play a Troon course, etc during Patriot Golf Day, in support of Folds of Honor.

Have a great week. Go #TeamTroon!
