Team Troon On Tour: Kuchar in “Final Four” at WGC Dell Technologies Match Play

The PGA TOUR moved from a four week stint in Florida for the next WGC event on the schedule…the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club. We had three Team Troon members in the field with Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Thomas and Matt Kuchar. The latter two of which were battling it out in the same initial Group (which initially had the moniker the “Group of Death” with Kuchar, Thomas, Oosthuizen and defending champion Kisner). Kuchar came out of that group and went on to beat hometown favorite Jordan Speith 2&1 in the Round of 16 and then Brian Harman (also 2&1) in the Quarterfinals, to make it into the “Final Four.” He would fall short of making it into the final match falling to another hometown favorite in Scottie Scheffler, but would defeat Victor Perez in the consolation match to claim a solid 3rd place finish.

Fun fact: Kuchar excels at match play, specifically at the WGC-Match Play! In this event alone he has eight top 10 finishes in 11 starts including on victory, one runner up and two third place finishes (for nearly $5M in WGC Match Play earnings).

  • 3rd – Matt Kuchar (defeated Victor Perez in consolation match)
  • T18 (2 Points) – Matt Fitzpatrick
  • T41 (1 Point) – Justin Thomas

Coming Up This Week:

The PGA TOUR stays in Texas and heads to San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Matt Kuchar is in the field, coming off his 3rd place finish. Also, Gary Woodland returns to play (his first event back following his COVID bout). From all of us in the world of Troon, we want to give Gary a great “Welcome Back..we are glad you are healthy, teeing it up again”.

Congratulations to the team at Park Hyatt Aviara and Aviara Golf Club on hosting a great Kia Classic this week. The leaderboard was strong and they crowned a great champion in Inbee Park. Well done on a great event…one that looked amazing on Golf Channel this weekend.
