Team Troon On Tour: Matt Fitzpatrick Wins the U.S. Open!

CONGRATULATIONS to Matt Fitzpatrick! Matt captured the United States Open championship at The Country Club in Brookline, MA in dramatic fashion… hitting 17 out of 18 greens, making clutch birdies down the stretch and finishing with an epic bunker shot to the middle of the 18th green to solidify a four round total -6 and a one shot victory over world #1 Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris. Matt was in the last group of the final round, as he was for the PGA Championship last month. As such, his U.S. Open inspired Troon bag (that also featured  two logos from longtime area Troon clubs/clients on the water ball pockets: Lake of Isles and Ocean Edge) received a TON of television coverage on NBC, USA, and Peacock.

Fitzpatrick’s U.S. Open championship is the fourth major championship victory for a Team Troon Member and the second in a row, following Justin Thomas’ PGA Championship win in May (his second major) and Gary Woodland’s 2019 U.S. Open win at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Gary Woodland would play well in this year’s version of the U.S. Open and ended up  finishing in the Top Ten. Justin Thomas would have a Top 40 finish this week as well.

  • 1st:  Matt Fitzpatrick: 68-70-68-68 = 274 / -6
  • T10: Gary Woodland: 69-73-69-69 = 280 / Even
  • T37: Justin Thomas: 69-72-72-74 = 287 / +7

Making this more historic was the fact that Fitzpatrick’s first major championship came at the same venue where he won the U.S. Amateur championship in 2013. Here he was captured with both the U.S. Amateur trophy and the U.S. Open trophy shortly after his victory:

LPGA TOUR Meijer LPGA Classic

Team Troon member Yealimi Noh was in the field at Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give. She would put together four solid rounds to finish -6 for the tournament and T56. Congrats Yealimi on a solid week!

It is also a Major week for the PGA TOUR Champions as Colin Montgomerie  and his all Troon bag will be strolling the fairways of Saucon Valley CC for the U.S. Senior Open. Colin will be building off his previous major Top 10 at the most recent PGA Tour Champions Major, the KitchenAid Senior PGA. Go low Colin!

The first is his post to start off the week: His “US Open inspired” golf bag included a red white and blue color pallet, a Brookline MA 2022 tag and two logos from longtime area Troon clubs/clients on the water ball pockets: Lake of Isles and Ocean Edge  Going into the event Matt tagged @Troon and both properties in his Instagram story that went to his 145k followers and Tweet below that went to his 138k followers. In the same “congratulatory vein”, Team Troon member Colin Montgomerie did a really nice tweet to congratulate Matt (and used #TeamTroon) following the victory. Classy move Colin and thank you for keeping the #TeamTroon trending!
